CS Letter Jacket, Graduation Cord & Dinner Rewards
Students participating in Computer Science UIL have the opportunity to earn
special rewards based on their participation, dedication, competition
performance, and accumulated points throughout the school year.
Rewards include a Computer Science Letter Jacket,
a Computer Science Graduation Cord, and a
special dinner for the student and one family member.
Letter Jacket Reward
180 Points Required
Students who earn at least 180 qualifying points may be eligible
to receive a letter jacket with a special Computer Science patch.
Graduation Cord
280 Points Required
A graduation cord may also be awarded to the
top two senior students with the highest number of points
during the current school year.
Exceptions:
Failing Mr. Cusack's Computer Science course at any time
during the school year will make the student ineligible
for this reward.
Receiving OSS (Out-of-School Suspension) at any time during
the school year will make the student ineligible for this reward.
Student and Family Dinner
500 Points Required
Mr. Cusack will pay for a dinner for the qualifying student and
one member of the student's family.
A student may also qualify by being a member of the
Computer Science team that wins the UIL District competition.
Exceptions:
Failing Mr. Cusack's Computer Science course at any time
during the school year will make the student ineligible
for this reward.
Receiving OSS (Out-of-School Suspension) at any time during
the school year will make the student ineligible for this reward.
Important:
Points are accumulated during all your school years.
Point Accumulation Methods
1. After-School Practices
Computer Science UIL practices are normally held after school on
Mondays and Wednesdays until 4:00 PM.
Earn 4 points for each qualifying practice session.
Students must remain at practice for at least
45 minutes to get credit..
Students must actively participate in Computer Science UIL activities
during the practice session.
2. Computer Science Contests
Virtual Contest:
Earn 6 points for attending and participating.
Local In-Person Contest:
Earn 10 points for participation.
A local contest is held within 60 miles of Klein Collins High School.
Long-Distance In-Person Contest:
Earn 20 points for participation.
A long-distance contest is held more than 60 miles from Klein Collins High School.
Contest Participation Requirements
To receive contest participation points, students must complete all
of the following requirements:
Take the UIL Computer Science written test.
Score at least 40 points on the written test.
Participate in team programming for at least
1 hour.
Bonus Point Opportunities
Score above 160 on any UIL Computer Science written test:
+6 points
Place in the Top 5 on any UIL Computer Science written test:
+6 points
Your Computer Science programming team places in the
Top 5 at a contest:
+8 points
Participate in the official UIL District contest selected by Mr. Cusack:
+6 points
Be a member of the team that wins UIL District:
+20 points
Win at each UIL competition level above District:
+40 points
Bonus points apply to both novice and advanced contests.
Mr. Cusack will determine which contests students are eligible to enter
and will assign students to appropriate contests and programming teams.
Point Entry Process
After each qualifying practice, contest, or event,
Mr. Cusack will provide students with a
secret participation code.
Students must enter the code into the designated Google Form within
30 minutes of receiving it.
Students are responsible for entering their own code.
Secret codes must remain confidential.
Important:
Students may not share participation codes with other students.
Sharing a secret code may result in the loss of
all accumulated reward points.
Eligibility Requirements
Graduation Cord
A student who fails Mr. Cusack's Computer Science course at any time
during the school year may become ineligible to receive the
Computer Science graduation cord.
A student who receives OSS during the school year may also become
ineligible to receive the graduation cord.
Letter Jacket
A student who is failing any class during a grading period may have
the letter jacket award delayed until the student's grade has been
raised to passing.
Dinner Reward
Students must remain eligible under the academic and disciplinary
requirements listed above in order to receive the dinner reward.
These rules are effective as of May 30, 2026.
