What is UIL Computer Science Contests?

In philosophical terms, the UIL Computer Science Contest is a
competition that challenges students to apply programming concepts and skills,
as well as their knowledge of the designated programming language.
The contest is also an opportunity for students to expand
their knowledge of computer science beyond the classroom
and to foster their interest in the field.

What do you do in UIL computer science?

The Computer Science contest challenges
students to study a broad range of areas
in computer science and has both an individual
and a team component. Competition consists of
a 45-minute written exam for both components,
along with a two-hour programming contest for teams.

I would highly recommend that you participate in these computer science contests above.

From my experience, colleges’ and the best scholarships put a huge weight on these
types of extracurricular activities because it tells
them that you want to go beyond what is taught in the classroom.
I see it reflected from prior years for students applying to colleges.
The opportunities for scholarships and college
acceptance for these students are much greater.
This is especially true for students going into
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in college.

The best part of participation in these Computer Science contest
is anyone with any level of skill is welcome to participate.
The contests are both online and in person.
They usually happen on Saturday's morning from 7 am till noon.

I will have practices about 2 times a week and during tiger den.
You are not required to attend all practices.
But the more you attend the more likely you will be able to go
if I have been given a limit on the number of students
I am allowed to take by the contest sponsor.

Also, these contests are open to any Klein Collins student.
They do not have to be in Mr. Cusack’s classes.
You can invite your friends.
