Clements High School Programming Contest Invitation

Hello Students,
We are excited to invite you to participate in the 2024 Clements High School Computer Science Contest! Below are the key details for the event:
Transportation
Participants must arrange their own transportation, with a travel distance of approximately 47.3 miles (about 1 hour and 16 minutes). Carpooling is encouraged!
Contest Details
- Duration: 2-hour, UIL-style programming contest for advanced teams.
- Novice Division: A separate programming packet will be provided for novice teams.
- Written Exam: A 45-minute, UIL-style written exam will also be offered.
Contest Format
- Advanced Packet: UIL packet with 12 problems, each worth 60 points. Incorrect submissions will incur a 5-point penalty, applied only when the program is eventually submitted correctly.
- Novice Packet: Will include 14-16 problems (currently in development).
- Languages: Java
- Submission Software: PC2. In case of PC2 issues, teams should bring flash drives for backup submissions (3 recommended per team).
Allowed Materials
One computer, keyboard, mouse, and reference book (optional)
Optional: Printer, power strip/surge protector
Event Schedule
- 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Setup, Registration, and PC2/Networking Assistance
- 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: UIL-style Written Exam
- 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM: Opening Remarks and Practice Problems
- 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM: UIL-style Programming Contest
- 1:00 PM – 1:30 PM: Appeals and Clean-Up
- 1:30 PM: Awards Ceremony (or sooner if possible)
Fees and Food
- Contest Entry Fee: None
- Lunch: Pizza available at $12 each. Sodas and snacks will also be available for purchase.
Awards
- Programming Contest: Certificates for the top 5 teams in each division.
- Written Exam: Ribbons for the top 10 finishers in each division.
Registration and Permission
To participate, complete and submit your permission slip by Monday, November 18, 2024. You can print, sign, and return it to Mr. Cusack, or sign electronically and email it to Mr. Cusack.
