Apologies – that last email was sent before it was complete. See below for the completed email.
Good Afternoon,
Attached is the agenda for the Cybersecurity Deep Dive.
See link - click here.
Please note that we will not be serving breakfast. We will provide you with a lunch coupon for the Commons Cafe. This is worth $15. Any amount over that will be your responsibility. Snacks, coffee, water, etc will be provided throughout the day.
After Hours: Community of Practice Development (see agenda for details) – Please join us for appetizers and dinner.
This is optional but we hope you will join us. WeTeach_Cyber will provide appetizers. Dinner and drinks are on you.
Pre-survey – we met this week to finalize the questions on the survey.
This should be coming out sometime within the next week and will either come from me or from Madeline Haynes, our evaluator. I will send an email when it is sent so that you may check your spam folders, if necessary.
Slack – The collaborative will be using Slack for communications. There will be a sub-channel for the 23-24 collaborative but you will also be joining the members of this year’s collaborative on Slack. As most cybersecurity teachers are siloed in there school, we hope to build a network of Texas cybersecurity teachers for questions, discussions, lesson plan ideas, and general brainstorming.
• Please join the WeTeach_Cyber Slack channel
https://join.slack.com/t/weteachcyberc-8bu3232/shared_invite/zt-1uw29667b-ocUcckswdo~qrf3HVHsxdg
and I will add you to the 23-24 weteachcybercollaborative sub-channel.
Homework – Due to a delay in the shipping of the book, Worm, the homework assignment has been switched with the October HW assignment. You will receive your book during the Cybersecurity Deep dive.
• Assignment – Listen to a Cybersecurity or Digital Forensics Podcast. Come to the Deep Dive ready to discuss your podcast. One of my favorites is the “Darknet Diaries”. I always say to start with episode 40 and then go back to listen to the rest. Episode 40 is just a lot of fun!

Good Morning and Happy Friday!
Congratulations on your acceptance into the WeTeach_Cyber collaborative!
I am so excited to have you all as participants in the 2023-24 WeTeach_Cyber collaborative!
This email will include A LOT of information and will require some actions on your part.
Please read the entire email CAREFULLY!
The program will begin at the Cybersecurity Deep Dive on June 5th, 2023 and run throughout the 2023-24 school year. As a member of this cohort, you will asked to complete the Foundations of Cybersecurity course and the CertMaster Security+ course as well as attend the in-person professional development days ending with the WeTeach_CS Summit 2024. All of the program specifics will be revisited during the Cybersecurity Deep Dive.
I am providing you with a WeTeach_Cyber Home Base.
This HOME BASE will provide a lot of information and help all of us stay on track.
Expectations for Participation and Stipends:
1. Attendance at the in-person professional development days.
WeTeach_CS Summit, Cybersecurity Deep Dive, Fall, and Spring
2. A minimum of 85% completion of the Foundations of Cybersecurity Canvas course.
3. A minimum of 85% completion of the CompTIA CertMaster Security+ course.
4. Completion of Homework assignments.
5. Participation in the Slack channel and the community of practice.
6. Challenging and passing the CompTIA Security+ exam by July 1, 2024.

(23/24 and/or 24/25 school year).
ACTIONS NEEDED FROM YOU
1. Register for the Cybersecurity Deep Dive: https://utakeit.tacc.utexas.edu/2023_WeTeach_cybersecurity_DeepDive/
This registration will automatically register you for the Canvas course. The course is unpublished at the moment but will be accessible at a later date.
2. Complete the WeTeach_Cyber Pre-Assessment: https://forms.gle/cQXr8Gd79hmWVzHY8
This pre-assessment will allow us to gather key information about your prior knowledge in Cybersecurity. This will provide us with a baseline and allow us to adapt our instruction so that the lessons are authentic and meaningful for you. Please just do the best you can.
3. Please complete the Pre-Survey that will be sent to you soon. Please keep an eye on your spam box. This is a necessary item for our grant requirement.
4. Homework Assignment (due June 5, 2023) - Read or Listen to the first four chapters of the book: Worm: The First Digital World War by Mark Bowden. This book will be sent to you in the next few weeks. Look for an additional email that will be forthcoming.
My preference was listening to it but you will be receiving a paperback of the book. Be prepared to discuss during the Cybersecurity Deep Dive.
5. Slack channel – sign up information will be arriving soon. Watch your email.
6. Do not try to sign up for CertMaster. This will be done on the first day of the Deep Dive on June 5, 2023 after EPIC has purchased the seats.
