Purpose: to better understand the hardware components of a network.

Assignment:
Create a google document.
The file name will be P1_NetHardware_lastname.

Insert a standard heading.
The title will be "Networking hardware"

Insert a table with 3 columns.

Column 1 - name of the network hardware
Column 2 - Description
Column 3 - Picture

Use the notes below as a guide and a resources.
A network device is a piece of hardware that facilitates communication and data transfer between devices within a computer network. These devices play a crucial role in enabling the flow of data and ensuring that different components of a network can communicate effectively. There are various types of network devices, each serving specific functions in the network. Here are some common types:

Router:
Function: Routers connect different networks together and determine the best path for data packets to travel from the source to the destination across the network. Key Features: Routing, packet forwarding, network address translation (NAT).

Switch:
Function: Switches operate at the data link layer and are responsible for forwarding data within the same network. They use MAC addresses to make decisions about where to send data. Key Features: MAC address learning, packet switching, VLAN support.

Hub:
Function: Hubs connect multiple devices in a network, but unlike switches, they do not intelligently forward data. Instead, they broadcast data to all connected devices. Key Features: Basic connectivity, operates at the physical layer.

Bridge:
Function: Bridges connect and filter traffic between two similar network segments at the data link layer. They operate at the MAC address level. Key Features: Filtering, learning, and forwarding.
Gateway:

Function: Gateways interface between different networks and can perform protocol translation, allowing devices using different communication protocols to communicate. Key Features: Protocol conversion, network translation.

Modem:
Function: Modems convert digital data from a computer into analog signals for transmission over analog communication lines (like telephone lines) and vice versa. Key Features: Modulation and demodulation.

Firewall:
Function: Firewalls provide security by controlling and monitoring incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. They help prevent unauthorized access to a network. Key Features: Packet filtering, stateful inspection, proxy services.

Access Point (AP):
Function: Access points enable wireless devices to connect to a wired network using Wi-Fi. They serve as a bridge between wired and wireless networks. Key Features: Wireless connectivity, SSID broadcasting, encryption.

Repeater:
Function: Repeaters extend the range of a network by amplifying and retransmitting signals. They are often used in wireless networks to enhance coverage. Key Features: Signal amplification, range extension.

Proxy Server:
Function: Proxy servers act as intermediaries between client devices and the internet. They can cache content, filter requests, and enhance security. Key Features: Content caching, access control, anonymity. These network devices work together to create a functional and efficient communication infrastructure within a network.
